The Kibera Cycling Club allows young people in the Kibera slums to learn and enjoy cycling and take part in outings beyond the Nairobi city boundary.
A group comprising Esther, Eric, Gabby, Hillarioz, Jonty, Parsley, Victor, and Jeff were joined by Kevin, Ingrid and Neil, and cycled out to the Kari Challenge mountain biking event.
This was a ride of 26km to the event, mostly along busy, main roads. It was the furthest they had all cycled and some then completed one lap of the 25km circuit at the race.
It was an eventful day – Esther overcame a crash and the resulting bumps and bruises, and the group had to repair punctures along the way. This was done confidently and without fuss.
All in all – a great day. And the verdict = tired but happy.
