Eayan studied at Namasoli Secondary School, near Mundeku in western Kenya, thanks to the support of his sponsor.
Each year any student who achieves an “A” in their end of term exams, has the chance to go to a summer Maths Camp and Eayan was invited every year while he was at secondary school.
Eayan recorded this short video for us and wrote to express what this opportunity means to him.
“I appreciate you for being able to give me a scholarship so that I can brighten my future life.
You have shown sympathy on me and provided your efforts so that you can see people like us are progressing. Your efforts will not be vain, I will work hard not only not to let you down but also to build my future life.
When I was through with my primary education, I did not expect to have a chance like this one. I am ready to prove true my ambition of being an engineer when I grow up through this chance.
I lost my father when I was six years old and now I am fifteen years. My mother is a vegetable vendor she did not have the ability to educate me further because she earns a meagre salary. I stay with my grandparents in a tiny village in the western part of Kenya.
Apart from academics my hobbies are watching movies and playing football. I am a midfielder and usually use my left foot.”
Eayan has now completed secondary school, achieving a B+ grade in his KCSE Final exams, and secured a place at Masinde Muliro University.
