Just like our previous ride in 2019, this will be led by our good friend and professional rider, David Kinjah, mentor to Chris Froome. He knows the terrain and will no doubt amaze us with his ability on a bike and some fascinating stories! We’ve worked with Kinjah since 2014 as our partner in the cycling clubs that we have set up in two Kenyan schools, giving the children his technical expertise. It will be a real treat to ride with him during this week.

The ride is planned for 6 to 14 November 2026 and will take a six-day route from Nairobi to Mombasa. This takes account of favourable weather (typically 20° to 30°).
The route will mean between 80 and 100 Km per day on a mix of road (20%) and track (80%), with mountain bikes provided. You can of course take your own bike and these can usually be boxed weighing under the 23kg personal baggage allowance. Some have even then donated their own bike to our cycling clubs.
We will have full back up from a 4×4 vehicle for breakdowns or fatigue and it will allow for a couple of transfers on route to avoid road sections.
We will go through at least one game reserve so will have an opportunity for a game drive – and you’ll be able to add time at the end for further safari or beach time if you wish.
And if you wish come a day or so earlier there’ll be time at the beginning to visit a school and projects in the slums to experience what life is like for the kids we sponsor in Kenya.
Accommodation will be a mix of hotels, with double occupancy built into the standard price (there will be an extra charge for single occupancy).
The cost is £1,800 plus flight. This covers all food plus bike hire, transfers etc.
Flights are currently around £800 by Kenya Airways (though cheaper routes are usually available via Istanbul for example).
I think this is really competitive. As a comparison, the ride in 2019 cost £2,800 including flights (and our trip to climb Kilimanjaro in 2016 was £2,450).
The trip will also be an opportunity for us to set up further cycling clubs in Kenya schools (we have two already) and we’d like everyone to commit to raising extra funds. The target is £1,000 each – which will be split between RRBF cycling projects and the Safari Simbaz, the cycling charity that Kinjah runs.
We intend to keep the group size to around 20 riders to make the most of the experience.
Please do let me know if you are interested and I’ll send you more information. And so feel free to ask if you have any questions.
