The Kibera Cycling Club – the first in Kenya
Our cycling club in the Kibera slums of Nairobi is for boys and girls.
They are able to learn to ride, cycle for fun, learn bike maintenance, compete, and hang out at the safe haven that is our base with clean, healthy mentors and learn valuable life skills.
With little income, few activities, and many temptations – drugs, glue, gangs, crime, prostitution… our cycling club is the first in Kenya, giving kids something constructive to do.
And attendance at school has increased as children are motivated to do more with their lives.
The Red Rubber Ball Foundation is a UK registered charity (1140443) that helps young people escape poverty in Kenya. Our projects have seen 234 children from poor backgrounds receive scholarships to attend secondary school, with over 120 now completing school and 80%+ going on to university or college.
The impact of COVID-19 in Kenya has been huge.
Schools will not re-open until January.
Children have little to do and are vulnerable to bad influences.
Many families are surviving on one meal a day, some have even less.
We’ve made a difference by providing:
- 450 food vouchers so families could eat
- study materials and books to the children we support, and
- private tuition to some sponsored students so they can catch up.
As schools re-open in 2021, we would like to do more, for more children. Your donation will help us set up more cycling clubs in schools across Kenya and give more children the chance to attend school.
So take part now for your chance to win Chris Froome’s shoes and help children escape from the cycle of poverty.
