Scholarships

The Red Rubber Ball Foundation provides scholarships to young Kenyans, allowing children to complete secondary school.  Our scholarships previously covered Form One to Form Four; and now, Grade 7 to Grade 10 under the new education system.

We select children based on need and provide scholarships to boys and girls equally, in schools all across the country.  For the 2025 school year, we are supporting 110 children in school and have sponsored 376 children so far.

Cycling

We have established two clubs so far at St Stephen’s Namasoli School and Senator Barack Obama Secondary School, where pupils learn to ride and the mechanics skills to maintain the club bikes.  And we will soon be opening another club at St Maurice Mwira Secondary School.  These clubs are run by the teachers at each school for pupils to have fun, learn skills and build confidence.

And beyond school

As part of the Red Rubber Ball Family, we want our students to make the most of the opportunity that a scholarship provides and we will stay in contact after school.

We have a small number of second-hand laptops that we can make available as a loan and we will use our network of connections to offer advice, training and introductions to help find opportunities for work or to start up or grow a own business.

If you are a RRBF alumni, let us know what introductions you’d like

Training – let us know the skills you want to develop

Internships – let us know the companies or organisations you like experience with

Opportunities for work – let us know the companies and role that you’d like to work for

Networking

Whether looking for work or growing a business, building your network of contacts is vital.  Two places you might look to build your network are Rotary and BNI.

Rotary members describe themselves as people of action, who get together in local clubs around the world to make friends and create positive change on a range of issues including peace, education, health, the environment and growing local economies.

It’s a group of like-minded people who will be involved in a wide variety of businesses so a great place to meet new people.

And Rotaract is specifically for young people aged 18 to 30 to develop leadership and professional skills, exchange ideas with community leaders, and have fun through service.

Several RRBF students and contacts are Rotary members so contacts us and we’ll introduce you to others in your area.

BNI is a business referral network – people meet once each week to make new business friends and introduce each other to new business opportunities.  You get to expand your number of business contacts and they offer some great extra training in sales and presenting yourself for example.

Student news – where are they now

  • Cheboi is a qualified nurse and studying for a Masters at Trevecca Nazarene University, Nashville, USA

Coming up

In 2026 we will be holding the latest of very enjoyable workshops for those students currently receiving a RRBF scholarship.  This will take place between 30 November and 2 December in Nairobi.  Students will take part in games and exercises to develop personal skills to help them with their studies and beyond.

And earlier in November we will have a bike ride from Nairobi to Mombasa to raise funds for our cycling clubs.
